Advertising

The Robertson School's advertising concentration is centered on professional practice, studio intensive coursework and experimental collaboration in education. The program is essentially a training ground that prepares students to join the world community of media practitioners.

Subconcentrations

We take the advertising concentration even further by offering two focused areas of study in creative and strategic advertising. Learn more about each of these areas by selecting a choice below, which will take you to in-depth information available through the VCU Bulletin.

Courses

Coursework at VCU focuses on smart thinking and rigorous practice in advertising. Classes emphasize the attributes and transferable skills necessary to succeed in advertising and media communications. Courses on topics such as story, curiousness, empathy, style and CreateAthon demand that students produce contemporary and effective advertising.

You will finish your advertising studies with a capstone course, which provides a real-world experience and helps build your portfolio. The advertising concentration stresses professional development that enables students to succeed in the contemporary workplace and in careers of the future.

Careers

Our courses prepare students in the advertising concentration for careers at advertising agencies, marketing departments of corporations or service organizations, and media companies. Learn more about career paths you can take with a degree in mass communications.
