Jeffrey J. Kraus, M.S.

Senior Communication Director

T. Edward Temple Building, 901 W. Main St., 1108

Jeffrey J. Kraus is the senior communication director for the Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture, returning to the School where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. A two-time Robertson School graduate, Kraus brings a deep understanding of the School’s mission and a long-standing commitment to the power of public‑facing communication.

Kraus comes to the role with more than twenty years of award-winning communications experience across higher education, state government and journalism. Before joining the Robertson School, he served as director of executive communications in VCU’s Office of the Provost, where he shaped institutional messaging, strengthened faculty engagement and led strategic storytelling for major university initiatives. His work has supported efforts such as VCU’s academic repositioning process and the “Every Ram’s a Researcher” campaign, both of which elevated transparency and broadened participation across the university.

His career also includes senior leadership roles with the Virginia Community College System, where he guided statewide communications for workforce development and tuition‑free programs, as well as service as senior advisor and speechwriter to Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine. Kraus began his professional life as a journalist covering state politics for public television, public radio and NBC affiliates — experience that continues to inform his approach to clarity, accuracy and public trust.

In his role at the Robertson School, Kraus leads strategic communications that support enrollment growth, faculty visibility, alumni engagement and the School’s broader public presence. He is committed to helping the School tell its story with purpose, consistency and care.
