Journalism

Background

William G. "Bill" Oglesby is associate professor emeritus and an affiliate faculty member of the Robertson School. He retired as a full-time faculty member after 20 years of service in September 2023. He had joined VCU as an adjunct instructor in 2003, moving on to full-time teaching in 2008. Dr. Oglesby taught communications law, ethics, documentary and other classes. He served for six years as the school's journalism sequence coordinator. Prior to VCU, Dr. Oglesby worked as a television news anchor/reporter in Roanoke, Va, Greenville, S.C., and Richmond, and as a co-owner and founder of Carter Ryley Thomas Public Relations in Richmond. Dr. Oglesby is past president of the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters (Va. and West Va.), and is a founding director of the Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
