Communications Internship – Rx Partnership

Rx Partnership (RxP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Virginians by increasing access to essential medications. RxP works with a network of free and charitable clinics throughout Virginia to provide medication to people without health insurance. We envision a Virginia where everyone has access to the medication they need, and no one has to choose between feeding their family or taking their medication. Rx Partnership is committed to breaking down barriers to equitable access to healthcare.

We are seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern to work with our small but dynamic team. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, ideal for pursuing careers in public relations, marketing, or nonprofit management.

General job duties of Communications Interns:

  • Social Media Content Creation: With RxP’s Director of Development and Marketing, develop and schedule engaging posts (both graphics and video) for Rx Partnership's social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram
  • Press Release Writing: Assist in drafting and distributing press releases to promote organizational initiatives and events
  • Marketing Support: Contribute to the creation of digital communications (email campaigns, website features, blog posts, etc.) and printed promotional materials (fliers, postcards, etc.)
  • Event Promotion: Aid in the promotion and coordination of events, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms
  • Media Monitoring: Track media coverage and assist in compiling reports on communication efforts

Qualified applicants should possess:

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content management tools
  • Graphic design skills; proficiency in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to capture photos and videos (using a mobile phone is fine) and perform light editing work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and show initiative in a business casual and flexible setting
  • Commitment to the mission of Rx Partnership and a passion for/interest in community health

Internship training includes:

  • Social media strategy for nonprofit organizations
  • How to segment and create content for different target audiences based on project
  • Exposure to nonprofit branding, fundraising, operations management and marketing for a small, fast-paced organization doing high-quality work across the state

Additional Information:

  • Location: In-person at the Rx Partnership office (1500 Forest Ave Suite 201 Richmond, VA 23229) to start, then hybrid with occasional in-person meetings in Richmond, VA
  • Duration: This internship is offered year-round; Minimum commitment of 1 academic semester (summer, fall, or spring) with an opportunity to renew upon mutual agreement. Hours are flexible, approximately 8-10 hours per week preferred.
  • Compensation: Up to three academic credits per semester; a monthly stipend is available based on total credits.
