Location: Remote (Tidewater, VA-based preferred)
Time Commitment: Flexible, estimated 3–5 hours/week
Compensation: Unpaid (Potential for future stipend as the chapter grows)
About Third Act:
Third Act is a national organization founded by renowned environmentalist Bill McKibben. Our mission is to protect the environment and defend democracy. We mobilize people in the "third act" of life—those post-career or post-retirement—though we welcome participants of all ages. The Tidewater Virginia chapter is currently in development and collaborates with other active Virginia chapters in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and the western region.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a creative, motivated Social Media and Digital Engagement Intern to help us expand our online presence and engage more members of our community. The intern will play a key role in increasing visibility for our chapter and its mission through strategic use of digital platforms.
Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a social media content calendar across platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky)

Create engaging, mission-aligned content to promote events, actions, and educational resources

Monitor and respond to audience engagement

Provide recommendations on new or emerging platforms to expand reach

Collaborate with chapter members to ensure alignment with national Third Act messaging
Ideal Qualifications:

Interest in environmental advocacy, democracy, and social justice

Strong written and visual communication skills

Familiarity with social media platforms and current digital trends

Creative and self-directed, with the ability to work independently

Graphic design, video editing, or content creation experience a plus
