Summer 2025: Richmond Free Press - Reporter Intern
The Richmond Free Press, an independent weekly newspaper serving the African-American community and underrepresented residents of Richmond, VA, is seeking motivated journalism students for a reporter internship position.
In this hands-on internship role, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience researching, writing, and publishing stories that shed light on important issues impacting the local Black community and the city's most vulnerable populations. Under the guidance of our experienced journalists, interns will:
- Pitch and write original news articles, features, profiles, and other content for print and online publication
- Attend community meetings, protests/rallies, and other events to gather interviews and information
- Develop skills in multimedia journalism by capturing photos/videos and creating engaging content
- Receive feedback and mentorship to strengthen reporting, writing and storytelling abilities
- Contribute to the Free Press' coverage of racial justice, civil rights and anti-racism movements
- Uphold the publication's mission of amplifying underrepresented voices and promoting equality
This is an ideal opportunity for students passionate about journalism, social justice, and serving as a voice for marginalized communities. Candidates should have strong writing skills, a self-motivated attitude and commitment to accuracy and ethical reporting standards.
