Summer 2025: Keep Virginia Beautiful - Marketing & Communications Intern(Remote)

Job Description: Marketing and Communications Intern 

Classification: Part-time (10 – 15 hours per week) 

Reports to: Executive Director, Keep Virginia Beautiful 

Work Location: Telecommute 

Salary: Unpaid; terrific learning experience and professional development opportunity; school  credit as applicable 

Duration: At least one semester, can be extended 

Introduction: Keep Virginia Beautiful (KVB) is a state-wide nonprofit organization that focuses on litter prevention, recycling, and beautification. Initiatives, programs, and events planned to continue and expand in 2023 include: Green Grants; Cigarette Litter Prevention Program; the Great Virginia Greenup; America Recycles Day; various clean ups; several special events; and  launch of a new business membership program. It is also our 70th anniversary in 2023, and as part of its commemoration, key programs will be expanded and new initiatives launched.  

Job Responsibilities: The position will provide support to help: 

  • Identify marketing priorities, plans, goals, and strategies 
  • Determine metrics, indicators, and analysis to evaluate marketing effectiveness 
  • Develop and implement a marketing calendar 
  • Create compelling content for social media posts, website updates, e-news, press releases, blogs, videos, presentations, print collateral, and other marketing/outreach efforts 
  • Distribute press releases and other marketing content 
  • Plan and implement special events, programs, and other initiatives, with focus on marketing and outreach activities 

Qualifications: Students in either an undergraduate or graduate degree program with related major / area of study, including Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field. Recent college graduates who would like to gain experience are also encouraged 

to apply. The organization’s physical office is in Richmond, but interns may reside anywhere in the state of Virginia, as long as they have access to a private computer, email, and the internet  for virtual meetings and collaboration.  

Skills and Attributes: We are looking for individuals to help share our message and engage stakeholders in our work. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing the mission of KVB and be social media savvy. In addition, excellent writing skills, design skills, and/or video production/editing skills would be fantastic. 

If you are interested in working in marketing, public relations, or communications, this is a great internship opportunity. We are a small organization, and you will have the opportunity to take initiative and leadership to creatively help achieve marketing goals. You will get a firsthand look at how nonprofits operate, as well as a chance to meet other professionals in the  environmental sector, attend meetings, and if interested, attend and assist with special events. 

Technological proficiencies required include Microsoft Office Suite and various social media platforms. Familiarity with CRMs a plus. 

If the intern wishes to participate in in-person events or meetings, the use of their private vehicle is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
