Nurture - Communications Internship Description 2024

Nurture seeks a committed student to assist with a variety of tasks essential to supporting the communications function of this nonprofit whose mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of childbearing families by catalyzing systems level change. We will work with the right candidate to build leadership skills within and across the many facets of a working nonprofit. The intern will work under the supervision of the Executive Director. This 150 hour remote/hybrid internship will be approximately 12 weeks starting May - June of 2024 and continuing through August, 2024. There will be an opportunity for continued paid work for the right candidate.

 

What You Will Learn:

  • A broad understanding of the many policy, social, and environmental factors that influence the health and wellbeing of pregnant and postpartum people and their families.
  • How to plan, develop and execute community education events and public awareness campaigns.
  • How to develop relationships with local healthcare and social services providers
  • Plenty of additional opportunities in related projects.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Junior or Senior with specialty in Communications, Marketing. Public Relations
  • Interest in Public Health, Maternal/Infant and/or Reproductive Health, Social Justice, Racial Equity, Non-Profit Management, or other related disciplines
  • Experience in social media, graphic design and/or Canva
  • Proficient in Google Docs and Sheets, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Organized & self-directed with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • Creative and flexible.
  • Experience in Wordpress or website development a plus

 

Tasks may include or be similar to the following: 

  • Help with planning, logistics, and marketing of a major public awareness event, Knock One Out of the Park for Breastfeeding, taking place on August 7, 2024 (KOOP24)
  • Create and execute effective social media content (general) and KOOP24 Campaign
  • Draft press releases.
  • Assist with website management and optimization
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing impact data from Nurture initiatives
  • Creation of infographics that convey systems level change approaches
  • Assist with the development of a marketing plan and materials for the beta launch of the Birth and Early Parenting Resource Directory, a web-based, filterable directory of pregnancy, birth, and early parenting resources in the Metro Richmond Area
