Spring 2026: Start 1 Spark - Google Ads Copywriter Intern
Position: Google Ads Copy Writer volunteer
Reports to: Amber Lancaster, Executive Director
Position Summary: This volunteer will craft digital marketing campaigns for Google Ads that promote Start 1 Spark’s mission throughout the Richmond region. The position will support the Executive Director and Board in creating a digital campaign strategy to increase brand awareness, raise donations, and recruit volunteers. The Google Ads Copy Writer volunteer will draft content for one to two digital campaigns, track progress, and provide recommendations on how to meet established goals. The ideal candidate for this role must be organized, creative, and a passionate learner who is excited to grow Start 1 Spark’s audience.
Start 1 Spark’s mission is to eliminate the financial costs of school extracurriculars so all students can participate in their school community. Utilizing a digital marketing strategy, the Google Ads Copy Writer volunteer will be a valuable team member helping to raise awareness of a local non-profit. This is an exciting opportunity for the volunteer to gain real world experience applying learned marketing skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Generate and edit written campaign content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action
● Ensure all campaign content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience and engagement
● Research current nonprofit digital campaign best practices and incorporate into campaign development as appropriate
● Conduct keyword and audience research to inform ad strategy
Requirements:
● Excellent written communication skills, including proofreading and sharp eye for detail
● Creative thinker with an understanding of persuasive writing techniques
● An understanding of what types of campaigns will be effective on Google Ads
● Familiarity with Google Ads or interest in learning digital ad strategy
● Work in a collaborative environment and share ideas and critiques respectfully
● Be a self-starter and conduct work independently
● Ability to balance multiple priorities and consistently complete tasks by stated deadlines
● Ability to conduct research to inform campaign development
● Respect and maintain the confidentiality of Start 1 Spark’s donors and partner school students and staff
Time Commitment: 6-10 hours per month
