Spring 2026: Dreamhaus - Photographer Intern

DREAMHAUS PHOTOGRAPHER INTERNSHIP

Description of Organization:

Dreamhaus is a stunning, premier immersive cabaret and Italian kitchen located in the heart of historic Shockoe Bottom. We blend high-energy live entertainment, a rotating cast of performers, and a curated dining experience to create an unforgettable nightlife atmosphere in a truly beautiful, one-of-a-kind space. As a dynamic, fast-paced arts hub, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of live performance and hospitality in RVA. Working at Dreamhaus offers a highly unique, behind-the-curtain experience for anyone looking to break into the live entertainment, media, or hospitality industries.

General job duties of Photography Interns:

  • Capture mouth-watering, high-quality culinary photography of our Italian menu (pasta plating, steam, fresh ingredients) to promote our "Dinner AND a Show" experience.
  • Photograph dynamic, fast-paced live cabaret performances, capturing the emotion and energy of the rotating cast under stage lighting.
  • Shoot styled imagery of our beverage program, with a special emphasis on our premium "Zero-Proof" mocktail menu and curated wine list.
  • Take architectural and "vibe" photos of the venue, including our patio and private rooms, to be used in marketing materials for private event rentals and corporate mixers.
  • Capture candid moments of audience reactions, room energy, and staff spotlights ("Meet the Team").
  • Edit, color-grade, and format high-resolution images for our website, Instagram, PR materials, and press kits.

Qualifications applicants should possess:

  • A strong eye for visual composition and a passion for both culinary/food photography and live event photography.
  • Proficiency with DSLR/Mirrorless cameras and a strong understanding of manual settings.
  • Experience with photo editing software (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop).
  • Ability to shoot unobtrusively in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment and adjust settings quickly for challenging, low-light cabaret lighting.
  • Reliable transportation is highly appealing due to the nature of venue hours.
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative creative team.

Internship training includes:

  • Building a diverse, professional portfolio featuring high-contrast live event, culinary, and architectural photography.
  • Learning how to shoot strategically for specific marketing objectives (e.g., selling tickets vs. selling private event spaces).
  • Mastering low-light and flash photography techniques without disrupting the luxury guest experience.
  • Mentorship on developing a cohesive visual brand identity and managing digital assets for a commercial venue.

Hours, Compensation, and How to Apply:

Dreamhaus operates Wednesday through Sunday from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM. While hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules, this role will require attendance at some late-night events and performances. This position is available immediately on a rolling admissions basis for the current semester, as well as upcoming Fall/Spring/Summer semesters. This is currently an unpaid internship designed for college credit; however, paid opportunities will become available for the right candidates as the venue and media programs grow.

A note on our culture: We are a highly open and collaborative team. If you have unique creative ideas, a specific passion for production, or simply want to get your foot in the door of a beautiful arts venue, we encourage you to reach out and start a conversation with us regardless!
