Spring 2025: Virginia Voice - Communications Intern

The Virginia Voice Communications Intern will support the coordination of specific  aspects of Virginia Voice’s Radio Reading and Live Audio Description services. The intern will also support the facilitation of Virginia Voice’s community engagement across the region with agencies and companies that serve a similar demographic, as  assigned.  

These duties will fall under the general category of outreach, administrative assistance, public relations and marketing assistance. Duties include idea and concept  creation, creating graphics, documents, and other promotional materials to help build  brand awareness about Virginia Voice. Duties also include supporting Virginia Voice  personnel at community events and networking events, creating packages to take to residential and other facilities to build relationships and promote and cultivate Virginia Voice partnerships and grow listenership. Additionally, providing  administrative support in the form of specific projects and daily record-keeping and  administrative tasks may be assigned as needed. 

The Communications Intern will assist in coordinating aspects of the Live Audio  Description (Live AD) program, which uses wireless technology to enable audio  describers to provide descriptions of the visual elements of live theater  performances, museum exhibits, and other arts, educational, and entertainment  activities. These assignments can take place at the office in the form of preparation  and at event venues in the form of the implementation of the service.  

The Communications Intern must be organized, a team player, enthusiastic, positive,  detail-oriented, and able to work independently once fully trained. They will work  collaboratively and provide support for members of the Virginia Voice team to ensure  the highest level of services are provided to Virginia Voice subscribers. The successful  candidate must have excellent communication and writing skills, possess leadership  skills, and have experience in working on communication and creative platforms,  social media, PowerPoint, Microsoft office and others. Some weekend and evening  work will be a part of the responsibilities of this position. The person in this position must also be comfortable working with diversity and multi-disciplinary teams, including people with disabilities.
