Spring 2025: Start 1 Spark - Social Media Intern
Position: Social Media Intern
Reports to: Amber Lancaster, Executive Director
Position Summary: This Intern will help promote Start 1 Spark’s mission by writing original content for Start 1 Spark’s social media platforms. The position will support the Executive Director in developing on-brand written content for the social media calendar and creating associated graphics for each post. The Intern will also assist in drafting and reviewing content for the monthly e-newsletter, articles for the website, and additional communications promoting Start 1 Spark’s events and mission. The Intern will develop content that engages existing and new audiences on our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube platforms. The ideal candidate for this role must be organized, creative, and a passionate learner who is excited to grow Start 1 Spark’s audience.
Start 1 Spark’s mission is to eliminate the financial costs of school extracurriculars so all students can participate in their school community. Utilizing multiple communication platforms, the Social Media Intern will be a valuable team member helping to expand a local non-profit. This is an exciting opportunity for the Intern to gain real world experience applying learned communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generate and edit written content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action
- Ensure all copy and content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience and engagement
- Manage the social media content spreadsheet to include language, recommended graphics, and appropriate hashtags and tags
- Research unique holidays that can be celebrated on social media platforms to promote Start 1 Spark’s mission
- Communicate with the Executive Director and/or volunteer photographer pictures that may be required for upcoming communications in a timely manner
- Oversee the Monthly Spark program by recommending which students should be featured and produce keepsake for both the Monthly Spark and partner school
- Draft the Volunteer Spotlight and articles on corporate volunteer events for the website
Requirements:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proofreading and sharp eye for detail and sense of what types of creative content will be effective
- Work in a collaborative environment and share ideas and critiques respectfully
- Be a self-starter and conduct work independently
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and consistently deliver concepts and copy by deadlines
- Ability to conduct research to inform messaging and copy
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of Start 1 Spark’s donors and partner school students and staff
Time Commitment: 10 hours per week
