Position: Newsletter Writer Intern

Reports to: Amber Lancaster, Executive Director

Position Summary: The Newsletter Writer Intern will support Start 1 Spark’s mission by writing original content for a range of communication purposes. The position will support the Executive Director in developing on-brand written content for the monthly e-newsletter, monthly volunteer e-newsletter, and other communications as necessary. The Intern will develop content that engages existing and new audiences on our email communication, website, and social media platforms. The ideal candidate for this role must be organized, creative, and a passionate learner who is excited to grow Start 1 Spark’s audience.

Start 1 Spark’s mission is to provide students in need with the means to participate in their school’s extracurricular activities. Utilizing multiple communication platforms, the Newsletter Writer Intern will be a valuable team member who builds our relationship with donors, and prospects, and volunteers. This is an exciting opportunity for the Newsletter Writer Intern to gain real world experience applying learned communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Generate and edit written content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action
• Ensure all copy and content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience and engagement

Requirements:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proofreading and sharp eye for detail and sense of what types of creativity will be effective
• Draft heartwarming content to convey the impact donors and volunteers have on our students
• Work in a collaborative environment and share ideas and critiques respectfully
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and consistently deliver concepts and copy under tight deadlines
• Respect and maintain the confidentiality of Start 1 Spark’s donors, volunteers, and partner school students and staff

Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per month
