About Us
Rebuilding Together Richmond (RT RVA) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. We provide critical home repair and modification services for low-income homeowners, with a special focus on older adults, individuals with disabilities, families with children, and veterans. Through flagship events like Fall Fix-Up Day and National Rebuilding Month, as well as year-round programs, RT RVA mobilizes skilled contractors and volunteers to create safe, healthy, and energy-efficient homes while fostering vibrant neighborhoods.
Internship Overview
This internship is designed for mass communications students who are passionate about storytelling, digital engagement, and community impact. As a Public Relations Intern with RT RVA, you will play a key role in promoting our mission, managing media assets, and planning signature events. This is a hands-on opportunity to build your professional portfolio while making a difference in the lives of others.
Key Responsibilities
- Social Media Strategy and Execution: Develop and schedule engaging content for RT RVA’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to amplify our mission and engage diverse audiences.
- Media Management: Coordinate photographers and videographers during RT RVA events, ensuring the capture of high-quality visuals that tell the story of our impact.
- Event Promotion and Organization: Support the planning, promotion, and execution of National Rebuilding Month and other key events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Database and Records Management: Assist with data entry, cleanup, and maintenance to improve organizational efficiency and donor stewardship.
- Content Creation: Write blog posts, newsletters, and website content to highlight RT RVA’s programs, impact, and community partners.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Education: Junior or Senior majoring in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Skills:
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong grasp of AP style.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer).
- Basic design skills using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with photography, videography, or coordinating media professionals is a plus.
- Attributes:
- Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Team player who thrives in collaborative and mission-driven settings.
Internship Details
- Location: A combination of in-person and virtual work. RT RVA is located 4.3 miles from the VCU student commons.
- Time Commitment: Minimum of 15 hours per week. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate academic obligations.
- Compensation: Unpaid. Can be used for class credit.
