Spring 2025: Delegate Jackie Glass - Communications Intern (PAID Stipend)

About Delegate Jackie Glass:  Delegate Glass has been a member of the House of Delegates since 2022.  She serves on the Privileges and Elections committee as well as the Communications, Technology and Innovation committee.  

She believes in first celebrating, then educating, then advocating and finally legislating for her constituents and the Commonwealth as a whole.  She is a self-proclaimed Certified Doer and Laced-up Legislator serving the 89th and, starting in January of 2024, the 93rd district in Norfolk.

Description of Organization

Intern Responsibilities

Interns will have opportunities to:

  • Tell a cohesive story encompassing the Delegate’s journey through the General Assembly session
  • Address Delegate concerns with social media
  • Create storyboards, draft social media posts, and curate images
  • Create and edit short daily videos documenting the Delegate’s activities
  • Manage the daily social media communications story with the Delegate and staff
  • Additional duties may be added as needed by the Delegate & Legislative Assistant
  • Additional duties may also be assigned based on the interests of the intern                                                

Intern Qualifications

While there are no preferred majors, applicants should have excellent phone decorum, willingness to work long hours, attention to detail, flexibility, and mature professionalism. Interns must also be able to commit to a set number of hours in the office each week. A preference will be given to applicants with a strong interest in creating and telling compelling stories for social media consumption.

Needed:  Skills with all major social media platforms, Canva, Constant Contact, etc.  There is minimal on-the-job training for using the back end of these sites.  Job seekers are expected to the have these skills and/or adapt quickly. Most importantly, be able to craft interesting stories!

When offered

Spring; Mid-January to Mid-March; approximately 60 days

Office Hours: Outside of the legislative session (January-March), hours are normally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional evening and weekend obligations. During session, hours are longer and vary depending on the Delegate’s committee schedule and bill hearings.  The office is willing to work with student class schedules. The ability to be consistent in your availability and performance is key.

Paid/unpaid/stipend – Stipend based on performance.

How far from campus – The location of the job will be at the General Assembly Building in Richmond, VA.
