The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (VICPP) is a non-partisan, nonprofit coalition with 25,000 members across Virginia. Our mission is to engage people of faith and goodwill to advocate for economic, racial, and social justice in Virginia’s policies and practices through education, prayer, and action. Legislative priorities: health equity, civic engagement, affordable housing, and economic justice.
Responsibilities
Hands-on experience in nonprofit communications with opportunities to:
- Design graphics and visuals for social media and the website
- Capture and edit photos and short videos for events and campaigns
- Assist with press releases, media outreach, and press conferences
- Write blogs and stories for VICPP’s platforms
- Support general communications and office needs
Qualifications (junior or senior)
- Junior or senior majoring in journalism, communications, PR, writing, or TV production
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Basic photography, video editing, and design skills
- Familiarity with social media and digital content creation
- Interest in public policy, social justice, and interfaith advocacy
Training and experience
- Draft press releases and blogs in AP Style
- Learn writing strategies to gain media attention and engage the public
- Work with the director of comms to strengthen VICPP’s storytelling and outreach
- Gain real-world skills in nonprofit advocacy and communications
Details
- Unpaid; offered fall, spring, and/or summer semesters
- 10 or more hours/week - a few hours/week in-person with flexibility to work remotely
- Office: 1716 E. Franklin St., Richmond, VA 23223
- Transportation: Free, 13-minute GRTC bus from VCU (Broad & Shafer) to Main Street Station (15th St.) every 10 minutes; also accessible via Pulse BRT (“VCU–VUU” stop)
