Fall 2025: VCU School of Medicine – Video Intern

The VCU School of Medicine (VCUSOM) is accepting applications for an enthusiastic student intern with a passion for storytelling and a talent for creating engaging video content. The successful candidate will work on VCUSOM’s web and communications team, reporting to the editorial manager and collaborating closely with the social media specialist on video content for the school’s websites, news stories and social media platforms. 

With a primary audience of medical students and graduate students, our video content highlights VCUSOM’s training programs, student initiatives, community engagement, mentorship opportunities and more about life on the MCV Campus. See examples of the team’s video content on the VCUSOM Instagram.

The ideal candidate is a creative, motivated and organized fast learner, with an eye for detail and a desire to connect with individuals and communities through authentic storytelling. Prior experience working in higher education, or an interest in health care, is preferred but not required. 

Position details 

  • Fall semester 2025
  • 10-15 hours per week (up to 150 hours, or 3 credits) 
  • Reports to the VCUSOM news and editorial manager 
  • Flexible, hybrid schedule, with most video shoots taking place on the MCV Campus
  • Semester stipend, paid monthly 

Responsibilities and opportunities

The intern will assist in the planning, production, editing and promotion of video content for VCUSOM’s audiences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scouting locations, writing scripts, capturing B-roll footage, monitoring audio and lighting during shoots, organizing footage, editing with software like Canva and Adobe Premiere Pro and adding graphics and subtitles. The intern will also attend weekly editorial meetings to pitch and plan upcoming content. 

Preferred qualifications

  • Junior, senior or graduate student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Video editing experience using Adobe Premier Pro and Canva
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Organized and detail-oriented 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and communicate when unexpected circumstances arise
