Fall 2025: Richmond Public Library - Communications Intern
Richmond Public Library seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while working in a diverse and fast-paced work environment.
The Richmond Public Library Internship is a professional skills internship to assist the Library/Community Services Manager – Outreach & Engagement in implementing organizational communications and marketing strategies. The Communications Intern will work independently and in a team to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives related to programming, events, and library services.
Time commitment: 20 hours/week from September – December
Qualifications:
- Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram etc.
- Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
- Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
- Strong computer literacy skills include Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications
- Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling marketing materials to promote library programs, events, and services
- Self-starter, good time management, creative, with ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to work well independently, and within a team
- Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the Richmond Public Library mission
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in planning, writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters
- Writing press releases and PSAs for events and announcements
- Supporting the social media team, developing social media content, and posting social media statuses
- Gathering materials for events and taking photos and videos of events
- Taking photos and videos, and editing photos and videos for social media and the web
- Developing media monitoring reports and maintaining records of media coverage and requests
- Collaborating with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
- Any other duties as assigned by Library/Community Services Manager – Outreach & Engagement
