Join us at the intersection of innovation and entrepreneurship with the Shift Labs at VCU + Robertson School internship program. Spearheaded by VCU's da Vinci Center for Innovation, this initiative introduces a unique retail space, the Shift Retail Lab, designed to showcase the ventures of student, alumni, and community entrepreneurs, affectionately referred to as "Shelfies.” At Shift, these creators receive invaluable support to develop, test, and market their ideas, products, and businesses, making real-world connections within their industries.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce professional-grade work across various domains including strategic brand development, website design, packaging design, content creation, copywriting, social media management, photography, videography, and graphic design.
  • Maintain regular communication with the assigned supervisor, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings and workshops with Shelfies, including Bootcamp and Feedback Friday sessions.
  • Track progress, goals, and time commitments diligently throughout the internship period.
  • Flexible year-round availability with unpaid compensation, offering either college credit, elective class enrollment, or voluntary participation for portfolio enrichment.

Requirements:

  • Open to students enrolled at VCU Robertson School, demonstrating a high caliber of work suitable for real-world application.
  • Proficiency in diverse skill sets relevant to advertising and branding.
  • Adherence to internship guidelines, including timely completion and approval of deliverables.
  • Commitment to regular check-ins and attendance at scheduled meetings and events.
  • Availability for flexible scheduling to accommodate internship hours.

Internship Overview:

In collaboration with the Shelfies, interns participating in the Shift Internship will engage in a dynamic monthly cohort experience. Tasked with ideating and executing advertising and branding strategies, interns will work closely with Shelfies to bring their ventures to life. Moreover, interns will curate a diverse client portfolio featuring small business owners both on and off campus, offering a glimpse into the workings of a professional ad agency. Through this internship, students will have the opportunity to showcase their creative prowess and strategic acumen while contributing to the growth of burgeoning startups.

Credit Details:

All internships must be pursued for academic credit through VCU Robertson School. The credit allocation is contingent upon the number of hours worked throughout the semester:

  • One credit: 50 hours
  • Two credits: 100 hours
  • Three credits: 150 hours
