About Delegate Delores McQuinn: Delegate Delores L. McQuinn has been a member of the House of Delegates since 2009. She serves on the Committees of Transportation (Chair), Education, Appropriations and Rules. Prior to her election to the House of Delegates, Delegate McQuinn was a member of the Richmond City Council and a member of the Richmond School Board. She was elected Vice-Mayor of City Council in 2003 and in 2007.

She has been an advocate for education, safety and social issues in her community. Delegate McQuinn has also helped spearhead historical and preservation efforts for Richmond’s Slave Trail and slavery history. She is an Associate Minister at New Bridge Baptist Church and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the YWCA’s Outstanding Women’s Award. 

Delegate McQuinn was born and raised in eastern Henrico County. She has attended Virginia Commonwealth University as well as Virginia Union University. 

Interns will have opportunities to:

• Attend receptions, meetings, and legislative hearings
• Address constituent concerns
• Track legislation and research legislative ideas
• Manage correspondence with constituents
• Assist in documenting daily constituent visits through data-entry and note-taking
• Additional duties may be added as needed by the Delegate & Legislative Assistant
• Additional duties may also be assigned based on the interests of the intern                                                

Qualifications: While there are no preferred majors, applicants should have excellent phone decorum, willingness to work long hours, attention to detail, flexibility, and mature professionalism. Interns must also be able to commit to a set number of hours in the office each week. A preference will be given to applicants with a strong interest in state government.

Office Hours: Outside of the legislative session (January-March), hours are normally 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional evening and weekend obligations. During session, hours are longer and vary depending on the Delegate’s committee schedule and bill hearings. Internships are available throughout the year.
