About Ujima Legacy Fund
Founded in 2013, Ujima Legacy Fund is a giving circle created by and for civic-minded African American men in the Richmond, Virginia region. The organization's name comes from the Swahili principle of collective work and responsibility. Members pool annual contributions into a shared grant fund, then use a structured, member-driven process to award grants to local nonprofits that empower youth and young adults, ages 12 to 21, with a focus on underserved and African American communities. Since its founding, Ujima has awarded more than $500,000 to over 20 nonprofits advancing education-related programming across the Richmond region. Ujima operates in partnership with the Community Foundation of Richmond, which provides administrative and grantmaking infrastructure.
