Fall 2026: Savvy By Design - Content & Storytelling Intern
==============================
CONTENT & STORYTELLING INTERN
Savvy By Design | Fall 2026
==============================
If you're interested in content creation but want to learn the strategy behind great content—not just how to post on Instagram—this position is designed for you.
Savvy By Design is looking for a creative student to help capture and tell the stories behind real interior design, renovation and real estate projects happening throughout Richmond.
You'll work directly with founder and designer Brooke Robertson and alongside two other interns focused on PR and growth. Together, you'll function as a small Marketing Innovation Team testing new ways to build an audience and a brand.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
• Visit active and completed design projects around Richmond to capture photo and video content
• Turn renovation progress, design decisions, problems and transformations into compelling stories
• Help develop short-form video concepts, Reels, behind-the-scenes content and educational content
• Identify moments during real projects that are worth documenting before they're gone
• Help organize existing photo and video assets into a usable content library
• Interview Brooke and other project participants when useful to capture authentic stories and expertise
• Develop content that can be repurposed across social media, websites, PR and other marketing channels
• Experiment with AI-assisted editing, ideation, transcription and content-production workflows
• Track which types of stories and creative approaches actually perform
• Collaborate with the Social Media & Affiliate Growth intern to turn strong raw material into effective campaigns
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
You'll learn how brands turn everyday work into compelling content—and why some content earns attention while other content disappears.
You'll get experience with visual storytelling, content strategy, brand voice, short-form video and content repurposing while working with real projects instead of hypothetical classroom assignments.
You'll also learn how AI is changing the content-production process and where human creativity and judgment still matter most.
The goal is for you to finish the semester with portfolio-worthy work and real examples of content you helped take from idea to execution.
WHO WOULD BE GREAT AT THIS
This could be a particularly good fit for someone studying communications, marketing, advertising, journalism, media or a related field who:
• Has a strong visual eye
• Loves storytelling and finding the interesting part of an otherwise ordinary moment
• Is comfortable taking photos and video on a phone
• Understands—or wants to understand—short-form video
• Can work independently and spot opportunities without always being told what to capture
• Is interested in design, renovation, real estate, lifestyle content or entrepreneurship
Reliable transportation is required because this position will occasionally involve visiting Savvy By Design projects throughout the Richmond area.
SCHEDULE & MENTORSHIP
The position combines remote work with occasional Richmond-area site visits. Scheduling is flexible around classes, although some project visits will need to happen when construction or installation milestones occur.
Interns will generally meet with Brooke via Zoom 1–2 times per week for strategy, mentorship and feedback and will collaborate with the other members of the Marketing Innovation Team.
The internship can be structured around academic credit requirements, including approximately 50, 100 or 150 hours during the semester for 1, 2 or 3 credits.
