Description of Organization 

Onyx Elite is an integrated performance and wellness facility in Richmond, Virginia, helping athletes and adults improve movement, strength, performance, and overall health. Through performance training, youth development, personal training, physical therapy, and community partnerships, Onyx takes a collaborative approach to health and human performance.  

Intern Responsibilities:  

The Public Relations Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting the communication, marketing, and community engagement efforts of a growing health and performance organization. The intern will work closely with the Director of Operations and other members of the Onyx team to help strengthen brand awareness and community relationships.  

Responsibilities may include:  

• Assisting in the development and execution of public relations and marketing initiatives  
• Creating and scheduling content for social media platforms  
• Supporting storytelling efforts by highlighting athletes, coaches, physical  therapists, community partners, and client success stories  
• Assisting with the development of promotional materials, email campaigns, and  internal and external communications  
• Researching media, community organizations, businesses, and partnership opportunities  
• Supporting relationship-building and outreach initiatives within the Richmond health, wellness, fitness, and sports communities  
• Assisting with the planning, promotion, and execution of events and community initiatives  
• Helping monitor social media engagement and campaign performance 
• Participating in brainstorming sessions and contributing creative ideas to strengthen brand awareness  
• Assisting with photography and video content collection when appropriate 

The internship will provide opportunities to gain practical experience in brand communication, content strategy, community relations, partnership development, and marketing within a small business environment 

Intern Qualifications:  

Applicants should be juniors or seniors pursuing a degree in public relations,  advertising, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.  

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, dependable, and interested in gaining  hands-on experience within a growing health, wellness, and performance organization.  

Preferred qualifications include:  

• Strong written and verbal communication skills  
• Familiarity with social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and  Facebook  
• Experience creating written, visual, or video content  
• Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with Canva or similar platforms 
• Strong organizational and time-management skills  
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team  
• Creative thinking and a willingness to contribute ideas  
• Interest in public relations, branding, marketing, community engagement, fitness, wellness, or sports  

Experience with Canva, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, email marketing  platforms, social media scheduling tools, or analytics platforms is preferred but not required.
