Richmond magazine accepts applications for unpaid editorial, marketing and photo internships in the spring (January through May), summer (June through August) and fall (September through December). All interns must receive credit from their school for the internship. The deadline for spring applications is Jan. 10, summer applications are due May 1 and fall applications are due Aug. 25.
Do you thrive behind a (video) camera? Do you lose hours splicing video clips together? Are you a go-getter? Independent worker? Open to critique? Are you eager to improve your craft and gain valuable hands-on video experience and published portfolio clips? Richmond magazine video interns assist with shooting, editing and producing online videos published on social media and richmondmag.com. These can include feature videos, short informational segments, behind-the-scenes highlights, Facebook Live posts and animated graphics. Candidates should be prepared to work collaboratively on some projects and produce at least one video project independently with guidance.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a college student studying film, video journalism or a related field with an interest in filmmaking or multimedia content. A commitment of at least five hours per week is required for this internship. For video internships, we prefer students who own a video camera or DSLR with video capabilities. Experience in Adobe Premiere Pro preferred, though Final Cut aficionados with their own computers and software are welcome as well. Bonus points for experience with audio capturing and editing or After Effects animations. We will consider any candidate with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn more about editorial filmmaking and storytelling in a digital format. Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to shoot locations and work in the office as needed.
Applying: Interns will be acknowledged in the magazine's masthead and in video credits for all projects to which they contribute. This is an unpaid internship, and credit hours earned through your academic program are required. Applicants should email a cover letter, resume and three to five links to your work to Creative Director Justin Vaughan: justinv [at] richmag [dot] com.
