Applications are now being accepted for two cash Fellowships of $1,500 each to support the summer communications internships of rising sophomores, juniors or seniors who attend a Virginia college or university. Virginia SPJ,SDX Educational Foundation awards the fellowships annually, with support from Society of Professional Journalists, Virginia Pro Chapter. Applications and all other material and letters must be postmarked on or before April 15, 2019.
Applicants are not required to be journalism majors, but they must demonstrate intent to pursue a career in journalism (print, broadcast and/or online media). Both winners will be recognized at SPJ’s annual George Mason Banquet, which honors a person who has supported freedom of the press and contributed significantly to Virginia journalism.
The Foundation and the chapter have awarded scholarships and fellowships to aspiring journalists annually since 1971. Previous winners now work at the highest levels in national, state and local journalism. The fellowship award on a resume distinguishes the recipient as one of the most talented college graduates entering the profession.
