Shood is an up-and-coming nonprofit (501(c)(3) based in Richmond, VA. Since 2017, Shood has distributed over 2,000 pairs of shoes to people who are homeless or living in poverty in RVA.
Many homeless people rely on their feet for transportation. But, sadly, many of them lack a good pair of shoes. That’s why Shood collects and reconditions running shoes for people living in need. Each pair collected is personally fitted to each recipient through pop-up shops throughout Richmond. These high-quality, well-fitted shoes make an immediate impact on health and wellness, while helping individuals step forward with dignity.
Why running shoes? The average runner goes through 3 pairs of shoes annually. After 350-450 miles, shoes are no longer good for running, but are still in excellent condition for walking. Shood has teamed up with Fleet Feet and Sports Backers to collect runners donated shoes and spread awareness throughout the running community about Shood’ s mission.

We are looking for a summer intern who is passionate about helping those in need in RVA and who isn’t afraid to jump in and help our startup nonprofit. You will not be filing or sitting at a desk for this internship.
Instead, you will help launch Shood in a big way, develop and enhance our social media presence, collaborate with companies/organizations on events/fundraising opportunities, and strengthen our communication to volunteers, donors, and partners through creating and implementing a mail-chimp account for Shood. You will also attend meetings, shoe giveaways, and help prep for shoe giveaways (which is s the equivalent of prepping for a college football game—lots of energy and excitement).
We need someone who is energetic, fun, who has a big heart and loves connecting with others. Strong knowledge of social media and photography is a must.
2 credit hours (8 weeks/100 hours=12.5 hours a week). Start and end dates are flexible. No pay but, an incredible experience. And let’s be honest, interning for an upcoming nonprofit like Shood will look great on your resume and land you a great reference.
Please email email@example.com, if you are interested. We would love to hear from you. Thank you!!
