Job Summary
- This intern position requires a highly proficient candidate willing to be flexible in support of various roles and responsibilities.
- The successful candidate will report to a senior Media Relations specialist who will make appropriate assignments typically on a deadline.
- The position will support various teammates on internal and external projects ranging from public relations issues, customer/media-facing complaint issues and project communications planning.
- The candidate should have the flexibility to work afterhours as needed and during storm restoration events.
- Adept in creative ideas for promoting positive company news.
Specific duties include:
- Keep up-to-date with news coverage related to Dominion Energy.
- Pitch positive community-related news stories and follow up with possible event.
- Write articles for publication in internal/external news channels.
- Create content/video for multi-media platforms, such as news releases, social media and company website.
- Collaborate with Media Relations reps when assisting with individual projects.
- Assist in storm restoration events by traveling to assigned service area, answering media line and supporting media rep.
- Draft communications plans as requested.
- Research and benchmarking work as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Strong writing and public speaking skills.
- Good written communications is essential to this position.
- Good organizational skills
- Self Starter
- Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint program
- Valid driver's license
- Cross-communications skills with social media channels is beneficial
- Must have a 2.5 GPA
- Must be a full-time student at an accredited 4 year college or university
- Ability to work potentially long, odd hours during major storms
- Must have an anticipated graduation date in May 2020 or later.
Education Requirements
- Must be a full-time student at an accredited 4-year college or university majoring in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing or a related field
- Must have an anticipated graduation date in May 2020 or later.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA
- Prefer a student with a 3.0 or greater.
