Who we are:


Since its formation in 1812, Union Presbyterian Seminary has provided education for Christian ministry that is scholarly, pastoral, and engaged with contemporary life. The Communications Office works cooperatively with other departments and the news media to help tell its story to students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students, donors, and the communities surrounding its Richmond and Charlotte campuses. It uses a variety of communication channels, including social media, videos, podcasts, the web, eblasts, publications, and writing to engage with its internal and external publics.


Internship duties:


You will work closely with the office’s leadership team to strategize and advance projects, including preparing social media, blog, publication, and e-newsletter content; and writing news releases. Special projects include the seminary’s partnership with Shalom Farms, community engagement efforts, a podcast series, alumni events, and fundraising campaigns. General office and project support. Other duties as assigned. You must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.


The UPSem experience:


You will have an opportunity to meet with civic, community and faith leaders, participate in social justice projects, volunteer with Shalom Farms, and attend informational lunches to complement what you will be learning.


Minimum qualifications:


You must possess strong writing and editing ability, excellent organizational skills, an ability to work effectively under deadlines and manage several assignments, knowledge of communications strategy, proficiency with WordPress and Google Apps, and an interest in photography and videography. Graphic design and knowledge of Presbyterianism helpful but not required. Preferred majors include mass communications, public relations, journalism, and marketing. You will be responsible for driving to some local assignments. Occasionally required to be outdoors.
