Summer 2018: Project Yoga Richmond - Communications & Public Relations

Project Yoga Richmond is a non-profit dedicated to making yoga affordable and accessible to everyone. Since 2010, we have brought the benefits of yoga into the lives of thousands of people from all walks of life. We make this happen by offering pay-what-you-can classes at our studio and providing more than 20 yoga and mindfulness programs to the Richmond community.


Type of Internship: Communications and Public Relations

Intern Responsibilities:


  • Assist with social media promotions of PYR services, classes, and events
      • Create 1 post per week and develop hashtags on PYR’s social media platforms for upcoming events and classes of the week
      • Create episodic or recurring events on Facebook and cultivate engagement
  • Assist with social media tracking
  • Organize a system to add PYR events to community calendars
  • Create signage at studio based on discussed content with Communications Manager
      • Distributing  fliers around the community
  • Work closely with Communications Manager to create graphics  and collaborate on marketing ideas to increase studio attendance and donor engagement
  • Other duties regarding communications, as needed


Public Relations (internal and external)

  • Learn how to speak about PYR appropriately using mission statements and approved verbiage
  • Develop personable and professional interaction with members of many different publics within the PYR structure
  • Achieve an understanding of PYR’s multi-layered Public Relations approach
  • Support PYR’s presence at a community event and engage with the public to increase awareness of our services


Intern Qualifications

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Canva
  • Google Sheets/Docs
  • Familiarity and comfort with social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.


When Offered:

  • Fall, Spring, and Summer


Paid/Unpaid/Stipend: Unpaid, 10hrs/week

Distance from Campus: ~8-10 miles
