Association for Women in Sports Media is accepting applications for the 2018 summer internship/scholarship program.
AWSM is a non-profit organization founded as a support network and advocacy group for women in sports. We work to promote and increase diversity in sports media -- and one of our hallmark programs is this summer program, which has placed more than 150 women in paid internships since 1990.
This year, we have up to 10 internships (all of which are supplemented by $1,000 scholarships) available to female college students who are at least sophomores or older. There are a mixture of digital (newspapers/magazines/websites), broadcast and public relations opportunities -- any women interested in those areas are encouraged to apply.
Last summer, our winners spent their summers working at places like Sports Illustrated, ESPN, the Golf Channel, MLB.com, USA Today and USA Softball, among other organizations.
In addition to the paid internship and $1,000 scholarship, our recipients will receive complimentary registration and lodging at AWSM's annual convention. In 2018 we'll be in Phoenix.
The application is open now and runs through Oct. 31. It costs $40 for non-members to apply and it's free for members. An annual student membership costs just $25.
