Summer 2017: Virginia Department of Social Services' Public Affairs Division - Public Relations Intern

Job Description:
The Division of Public Affairs: Public Relations Intern is an entry-level, part-time position that is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications projects and tasks. This position supports the Virginia Department of Social Services’ (VDSS) Public Affairs Division in researching local and national media strategies to support agency objectives and awareness initiatives; drafting and recommending copy and visual content for social media platforms; and developing written work that displays strong writing and editing skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of current communications, public relations and media strategies. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Strong writing, editing and presentation skills. Demonstrated knowledge of the use of social media in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Degree (earned or in-progress) from an accredited college with a concentration in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work. Experience in communications, writing and strategic media management.
