Posted in: Internships & scholarships, Journalism internships

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is seeking five interns for its paid, 10-week program for the summer of 2017. These internships are intended to give qualified college students (generally rising seniors or juniors) real-world experience.

Qualified candidates should have previous news experience, either for a student publication or a professional publication. Interns should have working knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook.

The Times-Dispatch has openings for:

• a Metro Desk reporter
• a Breaking News Desk reporter
• a Sports Desk reporter
• a Features Desk reporter
• a photographer/videographer

Newsroom interns will report to a department head who assigns daily and weekly duties.

Our newsroom interns work 40-hour weeks. Interns must have their own vehicles available for work assignments; the company reimburses for mileage.

Duties can range from shadowing a staff member to covering a news event for our website and for the next day’s newspaper. In addition to covering daily events for web and print, interns also typically work on a longer-term project – a story or series, a photo essay, a multimedia effort – during their time in Richmond.

Candidates must provide a résumé and a cover letter. Also:

• Reporters must provide at least five published writing samples, either in the form of links or as PDFs.
• Photographers/videographers must provide links to 25 samples.
Send inquiries to our managing editor, Brice Anderson, at The deadline to apply is Dec. 15.
