Summer 2017: Dominion Media Relations Department - Media Relations Intern (PAID -- 2 positions: NOVA & RVA)

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

Dominion’s Media Relations Department is responsible for managing the company’s reputation with earned media to promote and market the good work of Dominion’s business units, handle inquiries and defeat negative stories.  The team works very closely with others internally to ensure a consistent message is shared between many channels of communications, including digital and employee communications.   


Specific duties to include researching and writing news releases and advisories for the news media, researching and writing materials to help executives prepare for media interviews, pitching stories to the news media, assisting with special events and being available to work potentially long, odd hours during major storms


Some evening and weekend work possible


This internship is a paid internship and provides a monthly housing stipend to interns who qualify.


Job Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and public speaking skills. 
  • Good written communications is essential to this position.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Self Starter
  • Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint program
  • Valid driver's license
  • Cross-communications skills with social media channels is beneficial 
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA
  • Must be pursuing a 4 year degree
  • Must be a full-time student at an accredited 4 year college or university
  • Ability to work potentially long, odd hours during major storms


An added plus is the ability to decipher technical information and consolidate it into sound bites that could be readily understood by the general public


Education Required:

  • Must be a full-time student at an accredited 4 year college or university
  • Majoring in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or a related field
  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of December 2018 or after
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA (cumulative) or higher. A 3.0 GPA (cumulative) is strongly preferred

Working Conditions:

Some evening and weekend work possible; Up to 75% of the time will be spent in an office environment; Maybe required to work potentially long, odd hours during major storms
