The Chesterfield Food Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Chesterfield, Virginia. The mission of the Chesterfield Food Bank (CFB) is a simple one: to provide a helping hand to those within our community when they need it most. The CFB provides relief efforts in the form of reliable access to food as well as community programs. The CFB supports a large group of people who would not otherwise qualify for government assistance. These include single mothers working to try to put food on the table, senior citizens surviving solely on social security, veterans on disability, young couples just starting out, and people who have just been laid off from their job.
Obstacles to Success
While the CFB has operated within Chesterfield County for a considerable amount of time, there are many misconceptions as to our needs for support. For instance, while we purchase produce and meats from FeedMore of Richmond, donations made to FeedMore from Chesterfield residents do not actually come to the CFB. Many people provide support through canned goods donations, but our streamlined supply chain programs allow us to purchase $5 of food for every $1 given to us. Therefore, cash donations from our community are our most effective resource, as they allow us to replenish our supplies when necessary, but also divert funds to critical things like building repair, equipment maintenance, and other needs from operating a physical location.
Joe Elias, a member of our Board of Directors, has recently proposed creating a new marketing program that better educates the public as to our needs and the benefits of providing donations. The expectations of this role in supporting the CFB is to assist Mr. Elias in the ideation, creation, and execution of public-facing marketing campaigns to increase the number of donations made from citizens of Chesterfield County. Other members of the Board are focused on securing vital corporate donors capable of providing large, annual donations, so the focus of this role will be in building better relationships with everyday citizens.
Mr. Elias has a lengthy career in business marketing, having worked with large, international brands like Marriott, Pep Boys, the Outdoor Channel, and Hilton. He previously managed his own creative design firm, Little Big, and has experience developing aspiring professionals through innovative campaigns that bring real answers to complex problems.
For this engagement, we are seeking passionate people who believe in the mission of organizations like the CFB. This position will be operating remotely with regular video chat meetings that will be recorded for training and quality purposes. Occasional meetings at the CFB will be required in order to rapidly acclimate the candidate to the realities of the organization. A candidate excelling in this role will be a bold and effective writer with the ability to curate imagery to support their content in the form of online videos, written articles, press releases, and social media content.
