Marketing and Communications Intern

Posting Range $15 - $17/hr.

Better Housing Coalition seeks a self-motivated, mission-driven individual to join our team as Marketing and Communications Intern. This is a paid internship reporting to the VP of External Affairs. This individual will play a key role in developing and implementing cross-platform marketing campaigns for multiple audiences including donors, advocates, elected officials, staff and residents. BHC’s Marketing and Communications Intern will help make a lasting difference in the RVA community through the advancement of affordable housing initiatives, while developing professional skills and producing portfolio worthy work.

The Better Housing Coalition is the Richmond region’s largest non-profit Community Development Corporation (CDC). Our mission is to change lives and transform communities through high-quality, affordable housing. Beyond bricks and mortar, we combine long-term solutions in housing with ongoing support services for BHC residents that empower them to reach their economic, academic and health-related goals. Our programs help seniors age in place, youth aspire to higher education, and assist adults to attain career-ladder jobs and build generational wealth through home ownership.


  • Manage social media channels including drafting and scheduling original communications, sourcing or creating images and graphics, and interacting with ‘followers’
  • Updating Better Housing Coalition website and ensuring accessibility standards are met
  • Proactively seek out articles/topics of interest to share via blog posts and newsletters
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings
  • Support the development of written communication materials through copy writing, design, and editing
  • Assist BHCyp (Better Housing Coalition Young Professionals Board) members with logistics and promotions as needed
  • Support BHC historical archiving project


  • Be able to thrive in a fast paced, environment with varied tasks and priorities
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences both internally and externally
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Great work ethic and self-starting attitude
  • Currently working on a degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Advertising, Nonprofit Management or similar field

Preferred: Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite applications

Minimum employment period – spring semester 2022 with option to extend for additional semesters; Up to 20 hours per week. The weekly hours are flexible, based upon individual applicant’s schedule and any qualifications for school credit, if applicable.
