Spring 2021: Virginia Interfaith Center - Communications Intern

Purpose:  To publicize the policy and program work of VICPP to our members, the media, the community and statewide leaders. Assist the communications director by helping to create content including blogs, videos, graphics for social media posts; draft news releases; develop marketing collateral for fundraising; develop relationships with media and the community.

Accountability:  This position is directly accountable to the Director of Communications.

Responsibilities and Duties:  The Communications Intern will:

Media outreach
Organize press clippings and marketing materials
Attend media events and build connections with reporters and community leaders
Assist with press conferences and public events

Internal communications
Upload content to the website, post and publicize events
Design graphics for flyers, social media posts and marketing
Organize and share news releases

External communications
Shoot and edit video and photos at public events, interview people who are directly impacted by these issues: experts, faith leaders, legislators and community activists

Skills and Experience Desired:

  • Writing 
  • Knowledge about social media best practices
  • Experience posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
  • Graphic design (not required but helpful)
  • Video shooting and simple editing (not required but helpful)
  • Comfortable working with diverse faith communities
  • Passionate about social justice advocacy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
