Our Story

Shood is an up-and-coming nonprofit (501(c)(3) based in Richmond, VA. Since 2017, Shood has distributed over 6,000 pairs of shoes to people who are homeless or living in poverty in RVA.

Many homeless people rely on their feet for transportation. But, sadly, many of them lack a good pair of shoes. That’s why Shood collects and reconditions running shoes for people living in need. Each pair collected is personally fitted to each recipient through pop-up shops throughout Richmond. These high-quality, well-fitted shoes make an immediate impact on health and wellness, while helping individuals step forward with dignity.

Why running shoes? The average runner goes through 3 pairs of shoes annually. After 350-450 miles, shoes are no longer good for running, but are still in excellent condition for walking.  Shood has teamed up with Fleet Feet Richmond and Sports Backers to collect runners donated shoes and spread awareness throughout the running community about Shood’ s mission.

Spring Internship

We are looking for an intern who is passionate about helping those in need in RVA and who isn’t afraid to jump in and help our start-up nonprofit. Of course, we know internships look different during COVID-19 but, our team will find safe ways to meet up with you to work together and do great things in RVA.

You will develop and enhance our social media presence, strengthen our communication via newsletter to volunteers, donors, and partners and assist in launching our new program, Shooding Stars. Shood is partnering with Richmond Public Schools to place running shoes on student-athletes participating in Cross Country or Track at our Inner-City High Schools and Middle Schools starting Fall 2021.

We need someone who is energetic, fun, self-starter who has a big heart.  Strong knowledge of social media is a must. Added benefit if you have worked with Mailchimp and Squarespace.

2 credit hours (8 weeks/100 hours=12.5 hours a week). Start and end dates are flexible.  No pay but, an incredible experience. And let’s be honest, interning for an upcoming nonprofit like Shood will look great on your resume and land you a great reference.

Please email info@shood.org, if you are interested. We would love to hear from you.  Thank you!!
