Richmond VA Medical Center is seeking an intern to work with the Public Affairs Office.
About Richmond VA Medical Center
Richmond VAMC is one of the largest, most complex VA medical centers in the U.S. It serves more than 60,000 Veterans per year in the Central Virginia region with more than 2,100 daily outpatient visits on average. Richmond VAMC serves as a flagship for VA in areas such as cardiac surgery, spinal cord injury research, Parkinson’s disease research and polytrauma rehabilitation. The mission of the VA is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's Veterans.
About the internship
The Public Affairs Office is seeking a journalism student who can work 100 hours over a ten-week period. The schedule is somewhat flexible within the normal workweek (Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). The intern can be expected to produce written articles for the McGuire Monthly, the facility’s monthly newsletter, as well as for consideration in other publications within VA. The intern’s work will be published in print and online. Examples can be found at www.richmond.va.gov.
Applicants should be able to:
- Adhere to AP Style
- Research, conduct interviews and write news articles in a timely manner
- Work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Assist with copy editing
- Produce digital imagery for use with written stories
