Spring 2019: Renaissance Center - Marketing & Events Intern

BACKGROUND

 

The Renaissance is one of Richmond's largest Victorian ballrooms, located conveniently in the new Art's District in downtown. We host both daytime and evening events as well as provide catering for all in house events (http://renaissanceva.com/cuisine/).

 

DUTIES

 

Specific duties vary each semester although the intern will have the opportunity to work with the Renaissance team on both promotional strategies and event planning. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assist with event layout- from planning and diagrams to assisting with room set
  • Small event space maintenance tasks upon request (we’ll teach you how to be MacGyver with washi tape!)
  • Staging banquet spaces prior to appointments
  • Social Media Management- advising on both content and frequency, as well as execution of campaign
  • Content creation for the blog

 

Intern will work onsite 10-15 hours/week with a set schedule preferred. Minimal weekend work will be requested so that the intern can shadow the event planning process in its entirety. The internship is unpaid although the Renaissance will gladly work with you on paperwork/requirements for college credits.

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

Eligible participants must be at least 18 years of age and a student currently enrolled in a Richmond area college or university seeking credit for their internship. Preference will be given to those possessing strong communication and time management skills, as well as maturity, creativity and the ability to work with a team. Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation and be able to do some light lifting.

 

SKILLS

 

The best candidate is both ready to learn and willing to teach.  He or she should be an organized, punctual and responsible individual who values on the job experience. Previous experience in hospitality (restaurants, banquets or event planning) is a plus but not required.

Proficiency with Windows (or mac os), Microsoft Office, and Social Media Management (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Blogging) is also a plus.  Also, a proficiency in WordPress would be helpful.
