The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) ensure s academic quality and support s student success, which is dependent upon the recruitment, retention and timely graduation of a talented and diverse student body. Our goals and aspirations are clearly articulated in the un iversity’s strategic plan, and a primary component of our vision is to ensure that we attract and retain students who will graduate and contribute to a highly skilled 21st century workforce. Key areas of SEM include the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, Intersession, Military Student Services, New Student and Family Programs, Student Accounting, the Student Services Center, and Summer Studies.
SEM Communications
SEM Communications creates, implements and man ages strategic marketing and communications campaigns for the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management. SEM Communications’ marketing and communications efforts support the Division’s key goals related to recruiting, enrolling and retaining an academica lly talented and diverse student body. E xternal target audiences include prospective students, current students, and parents and families of prospective and current students, as well as high school and community college counselors and adv isors. SEM Communications serves as an information liaison for colleagues, university faculty and staff.
Internship Description
The marketing communications and design intern will support SEM marketing and communications initiatives . The intern will have the opportunity to be exposed to a multitude of projects and the many facet s of the creative process. The intern will work under the leadership of the Marketing Specialist to c reate effective and timely communications directed to prospective students and their families, current students and their families, and members of the university community at large to promote the university and it s resources.
Among the duties the intern will assist with
Design, development and production of print and electronic communications.
Review and development of internal and external communications pieces.
Review brand standards set forth by the University are being met to ensure consistent messaging and marketing.
Planning, implement ing and promoting SEM events and initiatives focused on student success and financial literacy.
Review of web content for accuracy a nd timeliness.
Writing and posting to social media accounts.
Monitoring activity on social media accounts.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate with exhibit the following qualifications.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly
Knowledge of AP Style
Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (must be able to pass a basic Adobe software
test) and strong graphic design skills
Interest in photography and videography
Keen attention to detail
Strong email writing skills, particularly using a customer service tone of voice and re
spectability
Desire to learn about brand strategy
Excellent time management skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently as well as in a team
Ability to work effectively under deadlines and juggle several assignments
Desire to learn what it takes to work in a fast paced atmosphere.
Preferred
Student in a mass communications or graphic design program preferred
Time commitment
Between 10 - 15 hours per week
For-credit and paid internship
This is a for-credit internship for 1 to 3 credits depending on the hours worked and the student's program requirements. Interns also will be paid. The pay rate is $9 per hour.
