Spring 2018: The Commonwealth Times - Outreach & Marketing Coordinator (Deadline Jan. 12)

The Commonwealth Times is seeking an intern to fulfill the new role of Outreach and Marketing Coordinator for the 2018 spring semester.


The Commonwealth Times is the award-winning independent student press of Virginia Commonwealth University. The CT publishes a 10-12 page newspaper every Monday and frequently updates the CT website with VCU/Richmond related news. The ideal candidate has journalism writing and marketing experience, knows how to code and operate WordPress, works well with a large team of people and is up-to-date on current events. This is an unpaid internship. Interns are expected to work nine hours a week by interacting with the VCU community on campus and from home or office.


The selected candidate will:

-Attend weekly staff meetings.

-Publish all digital content and stories throughout the week on the CT’s website.

-Assist the Managing Editor in updating the CT’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

-Assist the Director of Student Media in coordinating writing and media workshops.

-Assist in seeking new writers, photographers and illustrators to grow the CT’s staff.

-Enhance community engagement through social media.


Required skills:

-Social media

-Strong understanding of AP Style

-Previous experience using WordPress


-Proficient in Google products

-Communication with a team (written and spoken)

-Inquisitive nature

-Previous experience with coding and website development
