Spring 2017: The Podium Foundation: Communications/Social Media Intern and Graphic Design Intern (2 positions)

Title: Social and Digital Media/Communications Internship (Spring 2017)

Organization: Podium is a local, non-profit organization. We give Richmond middle and high school students the opportunity to explore their passion for the literary arts while learning writing and communication skills through after-school programs, summer teen leadership conference, open mic showcases, and through our youth literary journal publications. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other relevant accounts
  • Research content relevant to organization’s mission
  • Organize archive of digital images and videos
  • Report on online activity and best practice models/analytics
  • Assist with creation of digital and print content (blog, website, newsletters)
  • Opportunity to create a portfolio project of your choosing! 

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with photo and video editing software (Adobe or equivalent) 

You will receive a firsthand look at how community organizations work, have networking opportunities with board members, and create positive change in the community.  This position is unpaid. Academic credit available. Flexible hours, with approximately 10 hours a week. The office is located on Hull St. (downtown campus connector drops 3 blocks away); access to reliable transportation a must. Title: Graphic Design Internship (Spring 2017)

Responsibilities:

● Develop concepts, create graphics and design layouts for online and print media, including flyers, posters, email newsletters, website, postcards, invitations, blog and social media accounts
● Collaborate with communications team on support campaigns, marketing materials
● Design layout for Podium program publications, including Podium Journal, literary ‘zines
● Video/photo editing  
● Opportunity to design a portfolio project of your choosing!

Requirements:

  • ● Must be extremely organized and detail oriented
    ● Must have excellent time management skills
    ● Must have ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with a team
    ● Must be able to define and work to deadlines
    ● Personable, creative
    ● Proficiency in CMS and basic understanding of HTML; Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and/or other common design and layout applications
