Fall 2019: VCU School of Social Work - Communications Intern (PAID)

The VCU School of Social Work is seeking a creative, motivated and detail-oriented student worker to join its communications team.
  • Design portfolio showcasing graphic design skills (required)
  • Proficiency in Adobe suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator (or comparable)
  • Personal laptop (required) and personal Adobe Creative Commons licensing (preferred)
  • Personal camera (required)
  • Experience managing social media, especially Facebook and Twitter (preferred)
  • Experience as a writer/copywriter or editor and proficiency with AP style (preferred)
  • Experience with photography and videography (preferred)
  • Experience with a web content management system, such as WordPress (preferred)
  • Experience with Google suite and Google Drive file management (preferred)
  • Personal characteristics: punctuality, responsibility and attention to detail
Job duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Designing graphics and social media content to accompany a weekly student digital newsletter
  • Creating and posting content to social media and helping monitor comments
  • Responding to social media comments, direct messages, and monitoring social media accounts
  • Shooting/editing photos and video
  • Conducting student or faculty interviews and writing short features
  • Making minor web updates
  • Working in Google Docs to convert content from Word or PDF
  • Creating ADA-compliant social media posts, writing alternate text and assisting in maintaining accessibility for all users
  • Upholding all University and School branding pillars and working within the guidelines of VCU’s brand identity
The student worker will be eligible to work up to 15 hours per week, starting ASAP for the fall 2019 semester. Pay is $10. The option of ongoing employment in subsequent semesters is contingent upon the student’s performance.
