Description of Responsibilities:
The Social Media & Communications Intern will work with faculty and staff to develop optimal communication strategies to reach our student body, alumni, and the broader community.
The intern will manage the Department of Political Science’s social media presence, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and YouTube, and will assist with department website updates. The intern will also create flyers, surveys, and newsletters for department news, events, and outreach. The intern will also maintain a working relationship with the VCU Political Science Alumni Society.
The intern must be creative and social media savvy. They must also have a positive attitude, be professional, and demonstrate sound judgement while representing the department.
The intern should be reliable and professional. They will arrive on time, take initiative, and perform tasks to completion in an efficient and satisfactory manner. When necessary, the intern will be productive while working remotely. The intern should also be an independent, creative proactive problem solver, with the ability to multi-task. They must be able to follow instructions and should need minimal oversight when prioritizing and fulfilling responsibilities. They must have a positive attitude, especially when interacting with faculty, staff and guests of the department, and must be comfortable working in a diverse environment.
Must receive internship credit at VCU
Must be able to work at least 15 hours a week
Must comply with the VCU Code of Conduct and all other University policies and procedures
Must be able to handle confidential matters in a professional manner
Must be reliable and professional
Must be able to work independently and with a team
Must be able to follow instructions and adhere to university guidelines
Must have a good attitude and the ability to work within a diverse environment
Must be able to use Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and YouTube
Must be able to use Google Drive applications and Microsoft Office
Should be able to use publishing software to create weekly newsletters, or must be willing to learn
Should be able to maintain websites, or must be willing to learn
