Since 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. We are the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States, and we are looking for students with a passion for protecting the environment and the ambition to make a difference.

The Sierra Club Virginia Chapter communications intern will work directly with the chapter’s communication coordinator and fulfill various duties for other experienced advocates and organizers to develop and implement messaging campaigns that build issue awareness and highlight accomplishment of our efforts to protect the environment. The intern will assist staff in coordinating social media, community outreach, generating public support, creating content, and developing graphic design and video materials among other supportive duties. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Experience with graphic design and video editing are strongly preferred.

The prospective candidate should be prepared to work in a fast-paced and community oriented professional environment, with a commitment to 10 - 20 hours per week. Schedules are flexible and some weekend opportunities are available. Though the internship is unpaid, class credit can be negotiated with your educational institution. The Sierra Club is happy to work with students to develop their experience, build their resume and network with professionals.

Internships are available in Richmond. They are limited and fill up quickly.

To apply please send a resume/CV and writing sample to tim.cywinski@sierraclub.org with the subject line “Communications Intern Application.”
