Fall 2019: Science Museum of Virginia - Marketing Intern

Through experiential exhibits, awesome artifacts, interactive technologies, innovative programs, dynamic films, impressive live animals and interesting lab demos, the Science Museum of Virginia inspires hundreds of thousands of guests each year to enrich their lives through science. The Museum is a catalyst for inspiration, a place that sparks curiosity, encourages discovery and generates ideas in science, technology, engineering and math.
Marketing interns will take part in all aspects of marketing at the Museum and will gain experience in social media, public relations, advertising, research, and strategy. These duties include: 
Submitting Museum events to community calendars
  • Creating social media content
  • Compiling media clip reports
  • Preparing for media interviews 
  • Compiling social media engagement reports
  • Building media lists
  • Drafting and/or distributing press releases and media alerts
  • Writing blog posts
  • Gathering information for media responses
  • Assisting with special events
  • Conducting community partnership research
  • Participating in campaign planning sessions
  • Taking photos of Museum activities
  • Assisting with material distribution
  • Creating prize pack materials for contest winners
Qualifications are: 
  • Minimum age 18
  • Experience and/or desire to work in a museum setting
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Coursework in Marketing/Communications preferred
  • Interest in science preferred 
Based on individual needs and schedules, internship hours and shifts will vary, but some weekends and evenings will be required.
