Richmond, Virginia's KARAR DANCE COMPANY is a modern and contemporary non-profit dance company led by Artistic Director Kara Robertson, a Richmond native and VCU alumna. The company was recently recognized as an “upcoming company” by RVA Magazine. Through powerful, deep-rooted modern dance performance, KARAR DANCE COMPANY investigates the complexity of human emotion and experience. KDC seeks to engage and connect with the people of Richmond and beyond via performance and education.

Kara Robertson creates interstitial abstract work rooted in emotional experience. She is the Artistic Director of Richmond, Virginia’s KARAR DANCE COMPANY. Kara has presented work at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Gibney Dance and The Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York City, the 5th Annual Richmond Dance Festival, and for KARAR DANCE COMPANY’s inaugural concert and Across Disciplines as part of artoberVA. She is the founder of Homegrown Choreographers, an online community where modern dance choreographers share their inspiration and work. Kara is a Richmond native and 2016 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography.

Intern Job Duties

  • Fully support company’s PR strategy
  • Grow company social media presence

○ Create posts for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin

○ Post on social media daily

○ Like, reply, and comment to other posts and people/organizations daily

  • Grow newsletter
  • Work alongside company director to create additional opportunities and methods to improve public relations
  • Work independently and with others
  • Expected to work remotely for the majority of internship but will need to attend rehearsals, events, and performances
  • Perform research and market analysis activities

○ Create weekly content

○ Send newsletter to subscribers

Preferred Applicant Qualifications

  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
  • Solid understanding of the different social networks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for the PR industry and its best practices
  • Creative, punctual, and organized
  • Interest in supporting a non-profit organization in the dance and/or art field
