Fall 2017: Richmond Suburban News - Sports Reporter Intern (PAID)

Sep 21, 2017

Posted in: Internships & scholarships, Journalism internships

I am a sports editor at Richmond Suburban News, in charge of two weeklies (the Mechanicsville Local and Hanover Local) and a monthly (the King William Local).

I need people who can write clean (at least intelligble) copy, who can find a feature lead worth reading from a game nowhere near worth watching, who can meet a deadline (and I mean meet it, not stretch it as far as you think you can get away with), who doesn't give a damn what sport it is they are covering, and who realizes that the beat often demands that its practitioners give up Friday nights and Saturday afternoons.

It's a bonus if the candidate can take lead-worthy photos, too -- with their own gear.

This is a paid position. You'll get paid our standard freelance rate.

I primarily cover the high schools in Hanover and King William counties, along with Randolph-Macon College and some community and professional sports.

Interested applicants should send a resume and clips to dlawrence@mechlocal.com (and cc dmlawrence@vcu.edu).
