Fall 2017: Diamonds in the Rough - Marketing & Communications Intern

Diamonds in the Rough is currently looking for an interested junior or senior who is open minded, creative and willing to contribute to our company’s growth, marketing efforts, and social media presence.  We are based here in the Richmond area. Our company mission solely focuses on training, awareness, and prevention on the topic of domestic sex trafficking. We are a new company and in order to continue growth, we would like to ensure all of our presentation materials and resources are professional.

This is a great opportunity for Mass Communications majors and/or marketing students to merge academic skills with business to help gear them for the real world. Intern will be collaborating closely with President of Company on all project related material.

Preferred Fields of Study Include: Mass Communications, Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising, Graphic Design, Digital Content

The responsibilities of your role will include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Update and maintain Diamonds in the Rough social media presence, including scheduling Facebook updates

  • Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories

  • Designing flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing materials

  • Update the Diamonds in the Rough website when needed

  • Collaborate with President and other interns on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing communications


    Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements:

    • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space

    • Working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications. Or Public Relations)

    • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, Power Point, PREZI, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe, In Design and Photoshop highly desired

    • Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus

    • Be a self-starter; able to work independently and meet deadlines

    • Access to your own computer and High Speed Internet


    • Receive School Credit ( If Applicable)

    • Build your resume with professional experience

    • Working with a grass-roots based consultancy firm committed to social activism

    • Will receive an designated intern email during internship


    **This is an unpaid/volunteer internship**
