Fall 2017: Connect Our Kids - Social Media & Marketing Intern

Our Organization

Connect Our Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing advanced technology tools to help social workers. Our primary focus is building out a family-recruitment tool that will dramatically improve the family finding process for foster children.  Today, there are over 400,000 children in the foster care system. More than 20,000 kids age-out of the system annually. By age 26, two-thirds will have been homeless, incarcerated, or dead. From state to state, the foster care system is bureaucratic, overburdened, and failing. America can do better.


Social Media & Marketing Intern

Connect Our Kids is unique as we intend to give (not sell) our technology. We aim to create sustainable social change and we know that taking money out of the equation is essential.  That’s why we are rolling out our nationwide campaign, Give BIG America™. This campaign is a call to action that gives Americans the opportunity to create sustainable social change.

We are seeking strong interns who can build and share social media content this November. Our content aims to educate the American people on the foster care system and raise money to build out our technology. Two states stand ready to pilot our technology. Now we just need to build it.


Grassroots Organization

Currently, we have pulled on nearly 20 campaign ambassadors across the nation. We are seeking several dynamic interns to join our amazing team and lead their fellow students in a nationwide campaign. This position is not location specific - we welcome applicants from near and far. Content marketing and social media are key components of our strategy. Also, we need interns to research blogs, podcasts and other appropriate media platforms, organize interviews and campaign highlights. This is an internship opportunity for the self-starter and out-of-the-box thinker. 

Internship Contributions

  • Contribute to the development of the Connect Our Kids social media strategy

  • Oversee social media channels: Facebook and Twitter

  • Coordinate and support campaign ambassadors throughout the country

  • Create contact lists for media outlets

  • Seek out student ambassadors needing service opportunities

  • Organize and invite students from around the country to participate in this unique service project.


Preferred qualifications:

  • A strategic mind and a do-it-yourself attitude

  • Energetic and self-starter  

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Desire to make the world a better place

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or Mac Office Equivalents

  • An interest in the career paths in marketing, grassroots organizing, and non-profit organizations.

What you will learn:

How to build outstanding consumer engagement marketing campaigns.
Brand building and brand management in leadership sphere using social media. How to work collaboratively with outstanding leaders across the country. Honest feedback on your performance and insights on how to build your career, plus reference and recommendations.
